Reagan Quote of the Day

It's time we asked ourselves if we still know the freedoms intended for us by the Founding Fathers. James Madison said, "We base all our experiments on the capacity of mankind for self-government." This idea that government was beholden to the people, that it had no other source of power, is still the newest, most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man. This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capital can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

The Legacy of Reagan

Some of you probably guessed by the title of this blog that I am a Ronald Reagan fan.  "A Time For Choosing" was the title of a speech Reagan gave in support of Barry Goldwater's campaign for the Presidency in 1964.  Some historians called that speech the bright spot of an otherwise disappointing campaign.  The speech also catapulted Reagan into the political spotlight, and only two years later he was elected Governor of California. 

Reagan left a powerful legacy of conservatism, but his legacy was far more than that.  Reagan left a legacy of courage, humor, and an unbridled level of optimism regarding the future and character of our country. 

The purpose of this blog will be to honor the Reagan legacy by reminding all of us of the wisdom of his words and deeds.  If all of us could follow his example the Republican Party, and more importantly, the country would be much better off.
